CRM 2011

The new features of the recently released CRM 2011 (formerly CRM 5) beta has been very impressive and user friendly. Listed are few of the new features added in CRM 2011 to the existing feature rich functionality:
i) The revolutionary ribbon menu as in Microsoft office 2010
ii) Improvised features of Dashboards and Charts
iii) Filtered lookups
iv) SharePoint out of the box integration (Document Management)
v) Goals and Goal Metrics
vi) Auditing
vii) Field level security
viii) Processes (which includes Workflows and new feature Dialogs)
ix) Solutions
x) Outlook Integration features— New generation outlook experience
In this post we will take a look at the UI enhancements done in CRM 2011.
Menus are replaced by user friendly ribbon as in Microsoft Office. This not only gives a new look but also reduces the number of clicks in user navigation.

A new button to view the recently visited records and views is added beside Home button. This helps in toggling between the screens.

CRM 2011 has a provision for moving from one record to other without navigating to the list view of records. Tabs in entity form are replaced by collapsible sections.

We can filter the records based on our need. Selecting FILTER button in the ribbon, displays the filtering option on every column header.

The Form Assistant is totally removed and IntelliSense is used in lookups.

Ribbon Menus: Entity, View, Create Related and Customize.
From VIEW menu, we can create our personalized view the same as in advanced view.

We can create tasks and attach files for the records without opening the record, directly from CREATE RELATED menu.
And finally CUSTOMIZE menu gives the option of customizing the entity right from the entity section itself. In earlier versions this option was available only in Settings area. Access to this tab depends on the logged in user’s role.

In CRM 2011, new charts can be created and can be customized in no time. For every entity, we can create our own personalized chart similar to views. These charts can also be shared. 2D charts can be turned into 3D view.

Dashboard: There are several pre-configured dashboard available by default to use and new individual (user based) dashboards can be created. Dashboards can also be seen on each view.

CRM 2011 is good looking, but more than that it provides many features which can optimize our business needs. We will discuss other features of CRM 2011 in later posts.
